Type 3 Gaucher disease also affects the nervous system and causes similar symptoms, but it develops later in childhood. It may also have a better prognosis as compared to the type 2 form, depending on symptom set. Non-neurological symptoms of type 3 may be treatable, although no medicine can yet address the neurological symptoms of types 2 and 3 of the disease, as the blood-brain barrier blocks enzyme replacement medications.
